Inductive Study - what and how

Let me preface this by saying this is my way. Not the only way. I am at all not the authority or expert on this at all. I just know what I have grown to love and what works for me.

Inductive Bible Study For Life Application.
This is a way of studying the Word of God verse by verse looking at what God is speaking to your heart and getting application and coming up with practical steps for yourself so you can grow in that area God is speaking to you about. Other studies are awesome and used greatly by God, are typically, of course, being written with the authors learning style and their own ‘rabbit trials’. Please know that I think other studies are good and absolutely of God. This is just what currently works best in my life.
I typically don’t use commentaries unless I am completely stumped then I will use one as a spring board to prompt a thought in my head. I believe that commentaries are great tools. The reason I don’t use them much is because I get lazy, that’s all. I like looking up words in the original language this always brings a deeper understanding of what God is saying. So the great news is there really isn’t a wrong answer, except if you come up with some heresy ;0).

Here are the 3 step:
Step 1
Getting Started. Get your Bible and find a comfortable, quiet place to read. Always begin your Bible reading by praying and asking God to calm your heart, focus your thoughts and ask God to help you see what He has for you in His Word. I will often even ask God to speak to me about something I am specifically seeking Him on at the time.

‘Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in Your Law’ – Psalm 119:18
The first day read the entire Chapter so you are seeing it in context.
It is always best to read the passage 2-3 times.

Briefly describe in your own words what you have read. Think about if you were sitting with a friend and telling them what you read, what would you say?
Or you can simply write the verses as you see it word per word ( this is currently how I am doing it) from your Bible. If while you are writing something seems to stir in you with one of those hhuummm moments then highlight it. That is possibly God getting ready to speak to you. You will go back later and look at the very thing you highlighted.

Step 2
Observation
– What do I see? (Spiritual lesson)
Read the verses and write what you see. – Who? What? When? Where? Is there a command? Is there a promise? Is there a correction? Who is mentioned and what are they doing? What is happening now to the character? How do the main characters respond to their situation? Is this a response that honors God or dishonors God?

Step 3
Application
– How does it apply to me? Does this show me how I should act? How I should not act? How will I apply it to my life? It’s good to write the steps you will take to accomplish what God is putting on your heart. Often we are seeing something that needs to be changed in us and the best way to do that is by writing practical steps in accomplishing that change.

That’s it, that’s all there really is to it.

We all process differently and there is no right or wrong. I get off on rabbit trails. I might see a word that stirs me and I’ll go off on a whole study on that word.

Others can see the simplicity of the lesson and are moved by it. Remember it’s all about learning styles - not one getting more than the other / better or worse. I have been in studies for many years seeing women become defeated because some of us fill up 2 pages for 1 simple truth. They may have 3-4 sentences for the exact same thing. This is learning processing style. Please don’t let the enemy rip you off thinking anything differently. He is a LIER!!!

I pray you all will pray about incorporating this in to your walk with Jesus. I promise you will never ever regret it. There are many thing s that Inductive has brought to my walk but one I will share is the ability to give an account for the things I do or don’t do . To be able to tell people how God through His Word guides me in the things I do in my life has kept me from going down wrong paths many times. Not that they were wrong. They just were not what He was calling me to. The feeling of knowing that the God of the universe has taken the time to speak to my heart about anything is humbling and complete joy all rolled into one.
Sorry so long you can see this is very dear to my heart.
I will post an example later.

Keep chasing righteousness!!!

back to school

So today was the first day back to school. For most of you Moms you rejoice at this time. Well, for me a homeschooling Mom not so much. It amazes me that even after 5 years of home schooling it's still not my cup of tea. I love the planning but the actual teaching , not really my thing. I suppose it sure doesn't help that Aaron really could care a less about learning. This in and of it's self is very painful for me. We all want our children' to be brilliant and to apply themselves. Well, that's not my son. I know it's in there, in him, I see it. We just haven't watched it gorw yet. I am thankful that he will do the work. He's just not really interested. Before you comment, yes I can see the pattern here between him and I, I'm no dummy. Well enough of what seems like the negative. The truth is I am so very thankful that I have this choice to school my son this way. I have amazing support. Most importantly I have the Lord telling me that for now this is His choice for Aaron. So this is what we do. I won't go into all the reason for that because trust me you really do not want to hear them. I'm being obedient to my Lord and thanking my husband for his support. Some days are good days and some not at all. But tonight in closing I pray that this will be the year that Aaron gets a spark for learning but no matter what this year entails I know who is in charge and in whom my trust is so guess what
I'M A WINNER!!!!!!

21- day prayer and fast

our church continually does the 21 day prayer and fast, each time with a different focus - i received this email from a very dear friend that i am in leadership with:

Hi Ladies,

Prayer Ministries is planning another 21 Days starting this Sunday, 8/17 through Saturday, 9/06. If you’re not familiar with 21 Days, it’s a call to commit to pray and fast for 21 Days with a specific theme in mind.

The theme for this 21 Days will be New Life and Growth in Christ.

The verse for the focus: “I am the vine, you are the branches; He that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

Please pray about joining me for 21 Days. If you have not yet experienced the incredible intimacy with the Lord that comes through fasting and prayer, you will be in for a real blessing. The Enemy does not want people to know the power of fasting and prayer!

Fasting means denying our flesh, so pray about what God would want you to give up. He usually shows me very clearly the areas my flesh is struggling with. It might be food, or the computer, or sweets, or sleep, or even complaining words! It might be a combination of things. Ask the Lord, and He will be faithful to show you.

I would also encourage you to start out with a specific prayer list in mind. List specific people, situations, marriages, etc. to pray over the 21 Days. The New Life theme and verse fits every situation in such a beautiful way.

If you’re up for the challenge or have questions, please email me and let me know. What a blessing it will be to encourage one another and hold each other accountable.

so i knew the Lord was calling me to this - as i've talked about before this is an area that most of us are pretty immature in - my simple take on this is that it is one of the most powerful offensive weapons we have over the enemy and it is an 'of course' as to why he keeps us blinded to the power of it - and yet time and time again we are showed examples of prayer and fasting in the word, not to mention the command to do it !- - okay, so anyway i am of course being compelled to join this 21 day prayer & fast - i decided to post my response so as to prayerfully keep me more accountable.

I know God is calling me to this, so yes i'm in - i know that i will be fasting from: eating past 7pm - this is a huge sacrifice for me that has many fleshly issues, physical and emotional, wrapped up in it - it was the first thing that came to mind - the 2nd thing i believe i need to fast from is a behavior of feeding in to the negative of what tear people down that are being negative - let me try to explain: sitting in the office and someone walks in all fired up and nasty attitude a bit over the top - how easy it is to be annoyed and buy into the sess pool of Satan's deception, instead of seeing the situation as Jesus would - they are hurting, frustrated, overwhelmed with something else more personal in their life and they need us to come along side of them and extend grace and love - give them that cup of water - it's so easy when we are busy about our work to buy into the lies - we take things personally when most of the time it has nothing to do with us - i am so very thankful that the Lord has opened my eyes to this ugly thing and has shown me my own fault in participating - how i want this purged from my life - yuck that was vulnerable!

remember - keep chasing righteousness!!! - susan

maybe if anyone reads this post they too might be compelled by the Lord to start their own 21 day prayer & fast - don't think you're getting off so easy ;0)

back and forth to arizona

I just spent 5 days in Arizona to watch my kiddos while Tam and Bri headed to Colorado for their anniversary - 10 years wow it seems like yesterday - HAPPY ANNIVERSARY ! - anyway, i had such an unexpected sweet time there in so many ways - i was blessed beyond blessed to do a worship workshop for the CM worship team - I pray my words and encouragement were nuggets from our Jesus and that it can be used to add to the foundation He is laying out there - what a great group of people - it felt like home to me - i love seeing the work of God in other places - who am i kiddin' i just plain love seeing the work of My God!!! - thank you Jesus for that fun time - catching up with friends was a treat - God is doing this great work out there and of course it comes at a cost DIEING TO SELF & SACRIFICE but what an encouragement it was for me - God would clearly show me the bigger picture and why the hard stuff and it blessed my socks off not only for them out there but for all that I am dealing with out here - PERSPECTIVE isn't that always it - if we could always just get our eyes off of the circumstances of how we feel going through something we would be able to see that we are living those amazing stories we read in His Word - I had some sweet encouragement on prayer while I was there as well - a few things that I have kept tight in prayer for a long long time and God chose to show me how He is working in it and answering it - GOSH that was one of those scream out loud HALLELUJAH moments - so of course I am encouraged to keep praying, IT WORKS! - my time with hannie and josh was great - they kept me going - kept me laughing - i even played - yes it's true, i played - someone must have been praying for that ;0) - they are growing up so fast - where does the time go - i really cut myself off from everything back home (except my boys of course) while i was gone - barely talked to anyone - it was unintentional but so needed without even realizing it - God really needed to get hold of my head and clear it up - thank you Jesus - - and speaking of my boys, good grief they partied the whole time i was gone - i don't think they ever slept - paintball in the middle of the night, golf a few hours later, back to paintballing and so on and so on - o and let me say buying stuff alot of stuff, i guess we won the lottery while i was gone - i'm waiting for my portion!!! nahh!! i got mine in arizona xoxoxoxo

Empty Me

last night after 'k' group, we had our intersession prayer time~ this is always such a perfect ending to a great night~ and always lites the fire under me to continue praying for each of the ladies - few stay but it is always so rich and rewarding in ways that are hard to explain~ Lori had gotten this picture recently in seeking a desire for the greater working of the Holy Spirit~ a piece of PVC pipe and the Father has a pitcher of water(Holy Spirit) that He is pouring it into the pipe - there is this big sponge in the center of it that is soaking up the water, so on the other side of the sponge it is just dripping through, one little drop at a time~ you see the sponge is self and we have to be emptied of self before experiencing the complete work of the Holy Spirit~~~ during prayer time I layed there in this place of conviction and enlightenment all rolled into one~ you see we pray and ask God to do these big things and to empty us and use us and then when He does and the battle comes we start asking Him to take care of this horrible situation(trial) we ask people to pray for the injustice coming our way~ we go into panic mode in a way that is completely opposite of what we should be doing - -last night i realized that when we are asking God for the greater things of Him and then our lives seem to get turned upside down - - Praise Him, because this is Him doing what we have asked - until we are emptied of self we can not experience that over flowing power of the Holy Spirit in us. ALL of HIM and NON of ME!!!! - so I pray that I stop trying to get out of the hard things that come my way and realize that this is what it means to Empty Self - so my prayer request now changes to please pray that I would walk through my trials with humility and dieing to self because I so desire the greater work of Him

looking at Psalms 1

PSALMS 1 - looking at this this morning and seeing some very difficult reproof -
1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!

what is the counsel of the wicked - well the simple answer is anything that is not completely based on the Word of God - OUCH!!! that's a tough one . How about talk shows - gosh sometimes they sound so good in what they are saying - i believe that is called tickling our ears: the Word of God has alot to say about that as well. Our flesh wants to listen to the counsel that works with our weaknesses but in reading this verse we can clearly see that it is WICKED. sure i could go on and on here but i think the word WICKED is well put.

Nor stands in the path of sinners: how close do we allow ourselves to get to the line of sinful things? if we want to be blessed then it's pretty clear we need to stay clear of that path of the things of sinners. Yes I know that everything is permissible but is everything beneficial? Will it stump my progress in looking like Jesus? What form of entertainment is lessening my resolve to righteousness?
these are all very tough questions that I'm throwing around in my mind asking myself. I think this is going to be a hard day for me meditating on this verse and allowing it to nourish my body soul and mind with everything that God has intended it to be for me today.

remember keep chasing righteousness!!!!

A Letter from my Jesus

My Sweet Girl,

I beckon you to come to My Word for comfort, strength, wisdom and knowledge. When you do, My Words will pierce like a surgeon’s scalpel, both cutting and healing. My Word will cut to the very place where thoughts and attitudes come together, at the joining of soul and spirit, providing you with a healing that can not be obtained by any other measure.
My Word is given to you as a vehicle to carry you so that you might be able to know Me and see Me, your Lord Jesus Christ.
If you desire to grow in My Word then become a woman with a chisel and explore My Word. Let My Word become your Word, and I promise you will greatly grow.
I challenge you, My precious girl to rediscover the Bible in your own life, to regain the same hunger and zeal you felt when you first heard and felt My Name in your life. Great and mighty things I hold for you. Come enjoy Me enjoying you.

Wholeheartedly Devoted To You,
Jesus

A good read

okay i know you all must have read this many times before however today God wants to speak very clearly to you, cause He's pretty sure you missed it last time

Brenda was almost halfway to the top of the tremendous granite cliff. She was standing on a ledge where she was taking a breather during this, her first rock climb. As she rested there, the safety rope snapped against her eye and knocked out her contact lens . 'Great,' she thought. 'Here I am on a rock ledge, hundreds of feet from the bottom and hundreds of feet to the top of this cliff, and now my sight is blurry.' She looked and looked, hoping that somehow it had landed on the ledge. But it just wasn't there. She felt the panic rising in her, so she began praying.. She prayed for calm, and she prayed that she may find her contact lens. When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for the lens, but it was not to be found. Although she was calm now that she was at the top, she was saddened because she could not clearly see across the range of mountains. She thought of the bible verse 'The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth.' She thought, 'Lord, You can see all these mountains. You know every stone and leaf, and You know exactly where my contact lens is. Please help me.' Later, when they had hiked down the trail to the bottom of the cliff they met another party of climbers just starting up the face of the cliff. One of them shouted out, 'Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact lens?' Well, that would be startling enough, but you know why the climber saw it? An ant was moving slowly across a twig on the face of the rock, carrying it! The story doesn't end there. Brenda's father is a cartoonist. When she told him the incredible story ! of the a nt, the prayer, and the contact lens, he drew a cartoon of an ant lugging that contact lens with the caption, 'Lord, I don't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't eat it, and it's awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I'll carry it for You.' I think it would do all of us some good to say, 'God, I don't know why You want me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it's awfully heavy. But, if You want me to carry it, I will.' God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called. Yes, I do love GOD. He is my source of existence and my Savior. He keeps me functioning each and every day Without Him, I am nothing, but with Him....I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. (Phil. 4:13)

DUH!!!

I had one of the Duh moments this morning during my quiet time. I was actually just sitting and praying, praising Jesus for all the great things that He did during VBS. I was thinking about my week and my unexplainable ability to do what I did everyday. I went into VBS on Monday with only having a total of 5 hours (combined) of sleep for the 3 days prior. I was at the church working 9 to 12 hour days the 3 days prior. Then VBS hit, each day I was there from 5:30am until 4pm(earliest) 10PM (latest). We (Worship Team) did worship/ jump around crazy fun stuff with the kids for 1 hour 10 min each day ( We were also doing worker kid entertainment each day) 2 nights i never slept and the other 3 nights i got 2-4 hours. On Friday night our Friend's and Family Night, God allowed me to organize this amazing event. Lot's and lot's of work after a very long exhausting week - but so completely worth it! There is no reason why I should have been standing by that point. I hurt but I felt so full of life and excitement for what God was doing that I just kept moving. We ended the evening with EVERDAY!! a fast hype song. When we finished that song I could actually fell this sensation that I'm choosing to call, God lifting His hand from my Physical body. I was instantly unable to barely move. It was actually pretty funny (at least to see) but so very painful all rolled into one. I knew then my work was done. My Lord had carried me all week to do the work He called me to do. Now it was finished and I was so very finished! In my pain and exhaustion I was so thankful for who He is in my life and prayed that I would always live in this great truth. What He calls us to do no matter what the surrounding circumstances are He is faithful to give us what we need in the moment. The key is knowing what He has called us to and then trusting that He will make provisions each step of the way. We simply need to trust Him. So this morning as I was praying through this I was hit with the funny stick that DuH!! my word this year is ENDURE!!!! I love this lesson I'm learning and growing in. Don't get me wrong it is not easy but it's not supposed to be. ENDURE!!
Hebrews 5:4
And no one takes the honor to himself, but receives it when he is called by God, even as Aaron was.

new carpet

7 years ago when we moved into our church building, we all wrote on the sanctuary floor before the carpet was laid - today the carpet is being removed - there's little perks like this one that make being one of the last people to ever leave the building so worth it - as the men pulled the carpet up and I walked on that floor reading what so many of us wrote, it was emotional - it was an honor - i was so blessed to read the scriptures, to see the names of the people - i took many pictures, here are a few - it's hard to believe it's been 7 years - thank you Jesus for allowing me to be blessed in this beautiful way.

I'm Back

VBS was so amazing - God did what only He can do and worked the best plan ever. I am currently experiencing the VBS hangover, but so very worth it - i'd start back up tomorrow if I could - I'm posting a picture of steph- I don't have any other pix unfortunately - I realized that all the pictures I was taking was on the church camera ( duh!!) I'll try to get some of those awesome pix and post them but until then here's steph.

the day before VBS - it's here the day we have prepared and prayed for - i have my last practice with my worship team and after many cuts(songs) and my sweet friend( pillar) having to step out( sickness) i'm ready - the last little details ( technical ) will happen has it happens - the battle that goes along with something like this is insane but this year for the first time, i feel as if i have kept most of it in perspective - okay i'm not saying i didn't blow it - what i'm saying is quickly when the bomb would hit i would find my Jesus in it - now i'm sure since i said this, today ought to be interesting - that's okay, i know who it's all for - God is building His church (people) and for those of us that allow Him to use us we get blessed to be active participants - the reward far exceeds the hard stuff. here is a good devotion from this morning.

I will build My church. Matthew 16:18
This promise has enormous implications for every follower of Jesus Christ. "I will build My church." Each of the five words in this brief declaration reveals an essential truth of Christian life and service.
First, this promise discloses who will build the church. "I (Jesus) will build My church." Jesus is the builder of the church, not man. He wants to use us in the process, but He is the builder. Paul understood this arrangement. "According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation" (1 Corinthians 3:10). By the grace of God, Paul served the Lord. As he went about proclaiming Christ, the Lord was using him to lay the foundation (Christ) in lives that were being saved and individual churches that were being started.
Second, Jesus' promise reveals the certainty of His church being built. "I will (assuredly) build My church." There is no room for doubt. Jesus will do what He is promising. The only question for us is whether or not we will be available as a part of this wondrous process. The Lord wants to make us usable for His work: "sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work" (2 Timothy 2:21).
Third, this promise indicates the manner in which the Lord wants to work. "I will build (construct) My church." As with any construction project, there are both the quantitative and qualitative aspects. The Lord saves souls, adding them to His church in a quantitative increase. "And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved" (Acts 2:47). The Lord also enriches those He saves, bringing to His church qualitative development. "And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all" (Acts 4:33).
Fourth, His promise settles the issue of ownership. "I will build My (Jesus') church." The church does not belong to the Pastor, the Church Board, or the District Office. It is Jesus' church. He paid the price to redeem us: "the church of God which He purchased with His own blood" (Acts 20:28).
Fifth, this promise specifies exactly what Jesus is going to build. "I will build My church (His people)." The church is not a building. This word (church) literally speaks of "a called out people." "But you are…His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God" (1 Peter 2:9-10).

In My InBox

I love how much listens and cares for us. He knows me so well and what's on myheart that I often wonder if He's in my head - O wait He is ;0)
this was my thought process this morning and then i go to my email and get this devotion

What's Your Measure? In Luke 6:38, Jesus said these words:"Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you."That is a promise of Jesus that you can stake your life on. Give and what happens? It will be given to you good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?!But notice that He also added this, "The same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you." If you take a serving spoon, and that is what you measure out your giving with, you will get an overflowing serving spoon. It comes back to you good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and overflowing from a serving spoon. The measure you use is what is measured back to you. If you use a shovel, and that is what you measure it out with, that is how it comes back to you.Wouldn't you rather have a good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over shovel as opposed to a serving spoon? The measure you use, Jesus said, that is what is used to measure back to you.I believe many people are using a teaspoon and yet they are praying, "God bless me. I have big needs." I am sure God is saying, "I'm doing all I can. You know, I'm pressing it down as much as I can press it down. It is running over. But a running over teaspoon is just not that much."Are you using a teaspoon or a shovel? Whatever you use is what comes back multiplied, but it is only according to the measure you use.

I'm getting a bulldozer shovel today!
